If you want to spend your vacation laying on the beach or
floating down a long river pool, then this hotel is for you. I purposely chose
this resort because it boasted the worlds longest river pool. I wasn't
disappointed. My only surprise was the beach was so inviting it was hard to
choose between them.
You start at one small pool, and slide down to the
next, soak a while and then slide down to the next. Your next slide puts you at
the swim up bar where you can have a drink or just grab your tube and drift
slowly down the winding river, under bridges, past the jacuzzi until you end
your journey into the final huge pool. There you might take a turn down the more
serious three story water slide.
Once you're bored with the river pool,
you can spend the rest of your day on a spectacular beach and watch the kids
splash and play on the incoming waves. Thanks to what I assume is a natural
reef, the waves are just perfect for all ages.
The other joy in our trip
was the daily breakfast buffets and themed dinner buffets. This is something
common to many Hyatt Resorts and something that keeps me coming back. The meal
prices aren't bad for what your choices are. I wish I could say the same for the
room prices. Hyatt's are unfortunately make you pay for all the
trimmings.
If you're looking for Spa treatments or world class golf
you'll find that here also. There's no reason to leave although you might enjoy
a trip to the rain forest or a visit to Old San Juan. We went into one of the
local towns for groceries one day but I wouldn't recommend it.
I enjoyed
the atmosphere at the Cerromar because it was very family oriented. Even though
it was just the two of us, I still feel more comfortable in this kind of
environment. If you want a quieter time, the Hyatt has a sister hotel a shuttle
bus ride away called the Dorado. You can stay at the Dorado and still come use
the river pool at the Cerramar.
There were a few things which weren't
perfect but might not keep us away.
There's a type of black bird that
lives on the grounds despite all the efforts of the Hyatt corporation. It's a
pretty bird but wakes up early and makes quite a racket.
Not all rooms
didn't had coffee makers. Apparently, when they built the hotel, there was only
so much electricity to go around. They decided to that hair dryers were more
important in the morning than coffee makers. If they'd asked I would have told
them, Cindi does much better with bad hair and her coffee then good hair and
no coffee.
